Visit the Azeitão cheese dairies, where creamy, one-of-a-kind cheese is still made by hand; taste the Tortas de Azeitão, emblematic sweets of egg and sugar; and step into the traditional tile factory in Vila Fresca, where you can follow the whole process and even paint your own tile. Local markets are the place for regional produce and chats with artisans, don't miss the Azeitão Market, on the first Sunday of each month near Brejos de Azeitão.
Between vineyards, green slopes and Atlantic blue, Azeitão offers trails made for serene walking. Viewpoints across Serra da Arrábida open up panoramas that invite contemplation and a reconnection with nature.
Palácio da Bacalhôa, a national monument, brings together gardens, art and tiles of great value. Igreja de São Lourenço shows traditional architecture and historic tilework portraying local devotion. The 15th-century Convento de Nossa Senhora da Piedade bears witness to centuries of spirituality and history, an Azeitão where past and present coexist naturally.
In Azeitão, eating is a ritual. Tables are laid with local produce, cheese, tortas, wines, fresh fish and traditional pastry. The best way to enjoy it is simple: sit down, breathe and savour each flavour slowly.
In the Vila Fresca workshops, tiles are still painted piece by piece, as they have been for centuries. Among walls covered with panels, pottery and ceramics, you can watch the artisans at work, choose a unique piece or take home the tile you painted yourself.
